Jay Jay

16 year old Jay Jay is from Colchester, England. When she first contacted us about her doll Chris had just come back from China and had made contact with some doll manufacturers. Jay Jays idea to create a universal doll not constrained by national identities or boundaries was the perfect project for Blighty and so we were very keen to work with Jay Jay.

When designing Tixi we tried to keep in mind her vision and story ie the doll was designed collectively by a girl from every country in the world. So in essence the doll would be a melting pot of all the people and cultures of the world. This created a few design problems such as what clothes should she wear? How tall should she be? What colour hair etc etc? It was tremendous fun designing, re designing and then re designing some more until eventually we found a doll that fitted Jay Jays vision.

Then we set about giving this new doll a name. We tried to find a name that was universal and was known and loved in every country. It wasn't easy. It seems there is no girls name that is familiar and popular in every country.

We researched girls names all over the world but couldn't find a name that suited for a doll for the world. A doll with no nationality, race religion or creed. Eventually we decided to search for a word that was the same in all the languages of the world.

Our research showed us that there are only two words that are the same in every language in every country in every region of the world. The only universal words.

Those words are Taxi and bus!

Jay Jay and Blighty spent months researching a name to call the new doll and when someone wrote down the name Tixi we knew we had found the name for our new doll. When someone wrote down the word Bussub we knew we found the name of the island at the core of the world, home to all the boys and girls who designed Tixi.

We hope you like Tixi as much as we enjoyed creating her.

Jay Jay on Tixi

As a child I enjoyed playing with Barbie dolls and later Bratz dolls. However I remember my best friends (who were Asian-British Black-British) saying to me one day that all the dolls seemed to be white and with blonde hair. Later my friends mother wouldn't let her play with Bratz for she said they were too 'adult' and portrayed mixed race and black dolls as street and adult. I decided there and then that I wanted to create a doll that was better than Barbie. A doll that was better than Bratz. A doll that was not white with blonde hair. A doll that was not 'adult'. A doll that appealed to every girl in every country. A doll that promoted positive values. A beautiful intelligent doll. A doll that is loved the world over.

I decided to make a story about how my doll was created by little girls from every country in every world. This way the doll would be a product designed by girls from all over the world with features, looks and style familiar to all girls.

I am looking for a writer to help me with my stories of Tixi and the girls of Bussub.

I hope you love Tixi as much as I do.
